Bullseye! A Day of Fun, Focus, and Achievement at Our Archery Enrichment Day

February 6, 2025

Building Focus, Confidence, and Resilience Through the Sport of Archery

At Full of Beans, we’re always on the lookout for new and exciting ways to engage children in physical activity while fostering their mental, social, and emotional well-being. Our recent Archery Enrichment Day was a perfect example of this, offering students a unique opportunity to develop focus, coordination, and resilience—all while having a blast!

Aiming High for Fun and Learning

Archery is more than just a sport; it’s a powerful tool for self-discipline, patience, and confidence-building. Throughout the day, students had the chance to learn the fundamentals of archery in a safe and supportive environment. From mastering their stance to refining their aim, they quickly discovered that success comes not from strength alone but from concentration and perseverance.

Guided by our expert coaches, the children embraced the challenge with enthusiasm. Many had never tried archery before, yet they showed incredible determination and progress as they hit their targets—sometimes even a bullseye!

The Benefits of Archery for Children

Beyond the sheer fun of launching arrows at a target, archery provides a host of developmental benefits:

  • Focus & Patience – Encouraging children to slow down, concentrate, and refine their technique.

  • Confidence Boosting – Watching their skills improve throughout the session gave students a real sense of achievement.

  • Physical & Mental Coordination – Strengthening their hand-eye coordination while fostering a sense of inner calm.

  • Inclusivity – Archery is an activity where all abilities can participate and thrive.

Why Enrichment Days Matter

Specialist enrichment days like this allow schools to introduce children to new activities they might not experience in a traditional PE lesson. These unique sessions help broaden their skill set, encourage a love for physical activity, and create unforgettable experiences that spark curiosity and excitement.

We’re thrilled with the fantastic feedback from both students and teachers who took part. Seeing the joy and pride on the children’s faces as they accomplished something new was truly rewarding.

We would urge schools to place PE, physical activity and sport at the heart of their planning following the long year children have faced in lockdown. Through our work at Full of Beans, we have seen children who haven't just been affected physically but socially and emotionally as well. Ninety percent of parents reported they were worried that their children's activity dropped "dramatically" during this time. We support the Good School Guide in promoting #PRIORITSEPE alongside the amazing Sharron Davies MBE. Parents can also play a part outside of school. It's so important children have FUN and enjoy how they move their bodies and they will need to experience a variety of activities for them to be able to choose which they enjoy the most. For some, it maybe doing treasure hunts while on a dog walk, challenging their family on the monkey bars in the park, rock climbing, dance class or trying something brand new like joining a local footy team or gymnastics club with some friends. It is GREAT news that this coming week sees sports clubs opening up again and after school clubs can resume so ask for a trial if your child is nervous or unsure. Full of Beans clubs can be booked by clicking HERE. I think we all know how GREAT you feel after a class, bike ride, yoga or a run etc when endorphins have been released and that's what I want children to experience so they fall in love with that amazing feeling! Physical activity is also great for their social development and given we've been locked up and prevented for seeing people for a year, this is high on my list for all children right now. The graphic below shows just some of the benefits of being active and these aren't just for now but will help children for the rest of their lives - what better gift can we give them and I don't think there's been a better time to start. Parents - if you are struggling to know where to start, we can help you! Just give us a ring or send an email and we would be happy to give you some ideas. You can also subscribe to newsletters by clicking HERE . Schools - we can support you to improve your curriculum PE, physical activity and school sport as well as active playgrounds, self-development and well-being programmes.
