Full of Beans & Clare Mount Summer Camp 2022

Aug 06, 2022

An amazing Summer School 2022 !

Fun, confidence, friendships, skills & fitness !

With previous collaborations over the years, we have developed a great relationship with the children, families and staff at Clare Mount Specialist Sports College in Moreton.

This summer we were pleased that Mr Byrne asked us to partner with them again to run their Summer School from 25th July to 3rd August 2022 where an outstanding 60 youngsters took part!   Our aim was for this to be a great transition camp as the majority of children were from Year 6 in local primaries who were due to start at Clare Mount in September.     Children from Orretts Meadow, Hayfield, Park Primary, Black Horse Hill Junior School, Gilbrook School, Ladymount Primary and Great Meols Primary.

The programme was funded by the National Holiday Activities with Food (HAF) scheme.

The children took part in many activities such as dance, fitness, tri-golf, kin-ball, fencing, arts and crafts, tennis, dodgeball, gymnastics, basketball, boccia, New-Age Kurling, football, trampoline, Zumba, sitting volleyball and yoga.

Activities were led by our amazing Full of Beans coaching team Sally, Danny, Elliot, Holly, Danielle, Abbie, Karl, Patricia and Chloe with additional activities from Clare Mount's staff Mrs Murphy, Mrs Booth and Mrs Corcoran. We also had a fencing session from Pete from Little Musketeers.    We had the DREAMTEAM because they are not only the best qualified and experienced coaches but their mission was to ensure each and every youngster had the best time each day and every one of them went over and above every day.

To support the transition element we were lucky to have some of the Clare Mount team with a pastoral role ; Miss Smith, Miss Durkin, Mrs Kambanis, Mis Blessing, Mr Whyte, Mr Brooks and Mr Holsgrove who ensured the children had the best time.    Many thanks also to Ms Rowland for helping out with the whole of week 1 and Mr Byrne week 2.

Our very own Lindsey Hopkins from Full of Beans Fitness did an outstanding job in co-ordinating and managing the project and certainly was the glue that held it all together.    It was a huge task from managing the bookings, answering many queries, managing activities, organising staff and ensuring it all ran smoothly and everyone on site was settled and happy and she delivered it superbly!

Danny created an amazing show to finish the camp off with which had every child bringing loads of energy on stage, bringing a tear to the eyes of many of us and is a perfect reminder of why we LOVE what we do and makes it all worth while.

Thanks again to everyone who supported us in organising and delivering this project, hope you loved it as much as we did.

A gallery of pics is on the site HERE and we will also upload some of our fantastic feedback from parents as well.

We would urge schools to place PE, physical activity and sport at the heart of their planning following the long year children have faced in lockdown. Through our work at Full of Beans, we have seen children who haven't just been affected physically but socially and emotionally as well. Ninety percent of parents reported they were worried that their children's activity dropped "dramatically" during this time. We support the Good School Guide in promoting #PRIORITSEPE alongside the amazing Sharron Davies MBE. Parents can also play a part outside of school. It's so important children have FUN and enjoy how they move their bodies and they will need to experience a variety of activities for them to be able to choose which they enjoy the most. For some, it maybe doing treasure hunts while on a dog walk, challenging their family on the monkey bars in the park, rock climbing, dance class or trying something brand new like joining a local footy team or gymnastics club with some friends. It is GREAT news that this coming week sees sports clubs opening up again and after school clubs can resume so ask for a trial if your child is nervous or unsure. Full of Beans clubs can be booked by clicking HERE. I think we all know how GREAT you feel after a class, bike ride, yoga or a run etc when endorphins have been released and that's what I want children to experience so they fall in love with that amazing feeling! Physical activity is also great for their social development and given we've been locked up and prevented for seeing people for a year, this is high on my list for all children right now. The graphic below shows just some of the benefits of being active and these aren't just for now but will help children for the rest of their lives - what better gift can we give them and I don't think there's been a better time to start. Parents - if you are struggling to know where to start, we can help you! Just give us a ring or send an email and we would be happy to give you some ideas. You can also subscribe to newsletters by clicking HERE . Schools - we can support you to improve your curriculum PE, physical activity and school sport as well as active playgrounds, self-development and well-being programmes. The Merseyside based Full of Beans team were devastated when schools and nurseries closed due to COVID 19 and they couldn’t continue to teach the 1,500 children they usually reach in a week. They wanted to ensure they could still support the physical & mental health of the children in their communities.
