Super Beans is a self-development and well-being programme which brings together mental and physical health in a fun and engaging way. We aim to give children the understanding, confidence and support to develop resilience, teamwork, manage emotions and understand how physical health can impact positively on our mental health and overall well-being.

Through a series of ten one hour sessions, which are linked to the primary curriculum, Super Beans is delivered in a way that embodies our philosophy of fun, fitness and well-being. Each session is linked to a theme “Super Power” and incorporates a mix of discussion, teamwork and physical activities.

The sessions link to social and emotional aspects of learning such as motivation, social skills, managing feelings, empathy for others and self awareness.

Children develop self esteem, confidence and resilience, understanding emotions, friendships, the importance of movement to our well-being, and understanding how to care for ourselves by staying safe, having good nutrition and sleep patterns.

Using techniques such as emotion coaching, yoga, and mindfulness which are taught throughout the sessions, we encourage the children to bring active mind and body together. The final session incorporates a challenge (which the children have chosen in previous sessions), whereby the children incorporate their skills and encourage each other to successfully complete.

Throughout the sessions, regular check-ins and discussions and journals are used to encourage the children to process their thoughts and feelings about what they are doing.

The ultimate aim of the programme is to help children be well-prepared for future challenges they may face

We would urge schools to place PE, physical activity and sport at the heart of their planning following the long year children have faced in lockdown. Through our work at Full of Beans, we have seen children who haven't just been affected physically but socially and emotionally as well. Ninety percent of parents reported they were worried that their children's activity dropped "dramatically" during this time. We support the Good School Guide in promoting #PRIORITSEPE alongside the amazing Sharron Davies MBE. Parents can also play a part outside of school. It's so important children have FUN and enjoy how they move their bodies and they will need to experience a variety of activities for them to be able to choose which they enjoy the most. For some, it maybe doing treasure hunts while on a dog walk, challenging their family on the monkey bars in the park, rock climbing, dance class or trying something brand new like joining a local footy team or gymnastics club with some friends. It is GREAT news that this coming week sees sports clubs opening up again and after school clubs can resume so ask for a trial if your child is nervous or unsure. Full of Beans clubs can be booked by clicking HERE. I think we all know how GREAT you feel after a class, bike ride, yoga or a run etc when endorphins have been released and that's what I want children to experience so they fall in love with that amazing feeling! Physical activity is also great for their social development and given we've been locked up and prevented for seeing people for a year, this is high on my list for all children right now. The graphic below shows just some of the benefits of being active and these aren't just for now but will help children for the rest of their lives - what better gift can we give them and I don't think there's been a better time to start. Parents - if you are struggling to know where to start, we can help you! Just give us a ring or send an email and we would be happy to give you some ideas.
