Joe Wickes is great BUT it’s not PE!      April 2020

Full of Beans Fitness offer a huge range of online sports classes FOR KIDS which are age appropriate, safe and FUN!

The Merseyside based Full of Beans team were devastated when schools and nurseries closed due to COVID 19 and they couldn’t continue to teach the 1,500 children they usually reach in a week. They wanted to ensure they could still support the physical & mental health of the children in their communities.

A lot of learning ensued and long days but they have pivoted their services to be able to offer Curriculum PE, Sports Clubs and challenges to families directly in their Living Rooms.

They have been offering FREE classes are on their Facebook page and their YouTube channel and their pre-school sessions have continued via zoom to a whole class.

They felt strongly about continue to promote staying healthy, being active, continuing to support the children’s learning, keeping in touch with friends and bringing a sense of normality.

A specialist site has also been set up for our schools which provides them with FREE curriculum PE as well as all of our other specialist sports classes to share with their families.

They also continue to send in staff to support the schools who have stayed open for key workers

Founder & Director Nicky Adams says “Our sessions are all delivered by qualified teachers and specialist sports coaches and are safe, lots of fun and age appropriate. The variety of classes is fantastic as our team have pulled together to teach anything from yoga, dance, tennis, football, sports day challenges as well as adapted Curriculum PE & many more. Despite working for Sony Playstation in Wavertree for 14 year’s in my previous job, I’m still a technophobe so to have turned our business on-line makes me very proud!”

“As a parent of two children, I can honestly say they love it! Nicky and her team adapt their classes accordingly to suit the age group and mange to really reach the children on their level. The online classes have been a great way for the children to continue taking part in Full of Beans, which they love, but also allows them to see their friends and peers, which is extremely important given the current lockdown.” Donna Readle, Wirral

We would urge schools to place PE, physical activity and sport at the heart of their planning following the long year children have faced in lockdown. Through our work at Full of Beans, we have seen children who haven't just been affected physically but socially and emotionally as well. Ninety percent of parents reported they were worried that their children's activity dropped "dramatically" during this time. We support the Good School Guide in promoting #PRIORITSEPE alongside the amazing Sharron Davies MBE. Parents can also play a part outside of school. It's so important children have FUN and enjoy how they move their bodies and they will need to experience a variety of activities for them to be able to choose which they enjoy the most. For some, it maybe doing treasure hunts while on a dog walk, challenging their family on the monkey bars in the park, rock climbing, dance class or trying something brand new like joining a local footy team or gymnastics club with some friends. It is GREAT news that this coming week sees sports clubs opening up again and after school clubs can resume so ask for a trial if your child is nervous or unsure. Full of Beans clubs can be booked by clicking HERE. I think we all know how GREAT you feel after a class, bike ride, yoga or a run etc when endorphins have been released and that's what I want children to experience so they fall in love with that amazing feeling! Physical activity is also great for their social development and given we've been locked up and prevented for seeing people for a year, this is high on my list for all children right now. The graphic below shows just some of the benefits of being active and these aren't just for now but will help children for the rest of their lives - what better gift can we give them and I don't think there's been a better time to start. Parents - if you are struggling to know where to start, we can help you! Just give us a ring or send an email and we would be happy to give you some ideas. You can also subscribe to newsletters by clicking HERE . Schools - we can support you to improve your curriculum PE, physical activity and school sport as well as active playgrounds, self-development and well-being programmes. For more info please email nicky@fullofbeansfitness.co.uk where you will be directed to your local area manager. Full of Beans programmes such as Super Beans, Mini Mermaids and Young Tritons are proven to improve the lives of the children we work with and we are hoping that the support from #SBS will enable us to reach more children by informing schools, teachers and families about what we do. The overall well-being of all children is always at the centre of what we do and is crucial during these times and we are grateful that Theo has recognised the work we are doing, here in the North-west.” Small business champion and Ryman Stationery , Robert Dyas and Boux Avenue Chairman, Theo Paphitis, said: “We are thrilled to welcome new #SBS members every week and highlight just how important it is to support our small businesses here in the UK. My vision is that everyone who has ever won an #SBS re-tweet from me becomes part of a friendly club; like-minded individuals who can share successes and learnings. The website will also give a valuable profile to the winners chosen and I wish Full of Beans every success. Anyone looking for a re‐tweet from Theo should tweet him about their business on Sunday between 5 PM and 7.30 PM and include the hashtag #SBS.
